This means that your prospective employer has read your resume and likes the look of your skills, work experience and education. They are now interested in meeting with you to discuss your background in more depth and assess your interpersonal skills.<\/p>\n<p>The interview is your chance to convince the employer that you are the best person for the position and would be an asset to their organisation.<\/p>\n\t<h2>\n\t\t<a>Preparation<\/a><\/h2>\n\t\n\t\tYour Lawson Elliott consultant will brief you on the interview details such as the format, name and position of interviewer(s), address, and expectations.\n\t\n\t\tTo give yourself the best possible chance of doing well in the interview you must do your homework on the company and its people. Remember &#8211; the more prepared you are, the more relaxed you will find yourself.\n\t\n\t\t<strong>Preparation tips:<\/strong>\n\t<ul>\n\t\t<li>\n\t\t\tBe thoroughly familiar with your resume &#8211; particularly dates, titles, responsibilities and achievements<\/li>\n\t\t<li>\n\t\t\tRead the job description and identify key areas of responsibility that the client may question<\/li>\n\t\t<li>\n\t\t\tResearch the company&#8217;s website comprehensively<\/li>\n\t\t<li>\n\t\t\tResearch recent news articles on the company &#8211; use the internet, trade magazines and newspapers<\/li>\n\t\t<li>\n\t\t\tLearn and understand the company&#8217;s values and mission statement<\/li>\n\t\t<li>\n\t\t\tLearn who the company&#8217;s key competitors are and research the industry to ascertain key topics and current issues or trends<\/li>\n\t\t<li>\n\t\t\tThink of intelligent\u00a0questions\u00a0to ask to give you a better understanding of the position and\/or the company<\/li>\n\t\t<li>\n\t\t\tRehearse and practise answering AND asking questions. Keeping up that good impression is just as important.\n\t\n\t\t<strong>Presentation tips:<\/strong>\n\t<ul>\n\t\t<li>\n\t\t\tDress appropriately &#8211; it is essential to wear conservative business attire to an interview<\/li>\n\t\t<li>\n\t\t\tEnsure that you are well groomed &#8211; from head (neat hair) to toe (polished shoes)<\/li>\n\t\t<li>\n\t\t\tDon&#8217;t smoke or drink alcohol immediately before the interview<\/li>\n\t\t<li>\n\t\t\tBe prepared for bad weather &#8211; avoid arriving soaked in rain or sweat<\/li>\n\t\t<li>\n\t\t\tMaintain a confident posture &#8211; sit up-right and don&#8217;t fidget<\/li>\n\t<\/ul>\n\t<h2>\n\t\t<a>The Interview<\/a><\/h2>\n\t\n\t\tIt is important to be confident, motivated and enthusiastic. The employer will be looking for you to display energy and to be positive. Perform well in the interview and you will be a step closer to landing the job.\n\t\n\t\t<strong>Interview tips:<\/strong>\n\t<ul>\n\t\t<li>\n\t\t\tArrive five to ten minutes before the scheduled interview time. This is plenty of time to show them that you are keen. Avoid running late or turning up too early<\/li>\n\t\t<li>\n\t\t\tTurn your phone off<\/li>\n\t\t<li>\n\t\t\tGreet the interviewer with a smile and a firm, confident handshake<\/li>\n\t\t<li>\n\t\t\tSpeak clearly, and project your voice towards the interviewer(s)<\/li>\n\t\t<li>\n\t\t\tKeep eye contact with the interviewer as you listen and speak &#8211; it shows confidence, interest and enables you to read their body language<\/li>\n\t\t<li>\n\t\t\tListen carefully to the questions<\/li>\n\t\t<li>\n\t\t\tDon&#8217;t interrupt or cut short the interviewer when they are speaking<\/li>\n\t\t<li>\n\t\t\tGive thorough, in depth answers.
